About Julie

Julie Miller is a comedy director/writer/showrunner based in NYC. She has written, directed and executive produced specials for Comedy Central, Adult Swim, VICE, TBS and MTV.  She is the director of Good Timing with Jo Firestone, which was nominated for a 2022 Critics’ Choice Award for “Best Comedy Special”.

In 2016, Julie created RIOT, Refinery29’s comedy arm, to identify, support and amplify diverse female writers, directors and performers. As creative director of RIOT from 2016-2019, Julie produced 3 television pilots, 14 digital series, and secured a partnership with TBS.  RIOT featured series from Aparna Nancherla, Jo Firestone, Phoebe Robinson, Jacqueline Novak and John Early to name a few and was lauded by Decider as making “some of the Internet’s most well-done web content”. 

Julie created and ran Facebook Watch’s first late night talk show,  After After Party hosted by Sonia Denis (Brown Girls) which received a straight-to-series 30-episode order and featured a rotating panel of comedians including Bowen Yang, Matt Rogers, Liza Treyger and Rebecca O'Neal.  

Julie began her career as an intern at Saturday Night Live while studying film and creative writing at Pratt Institute. She continues to thrive in Fort Greene, Brooklyn where she runs Delicate Plumbing, her production company.
